This is the list of books I am planning to read this year. As with the previous lists, I'll add books to it whenever I manage to get my hands on something new, and I'll strike a book once I finish it.

As always, I check my to-read list for the year and take a careful look at all the books I've read during the year.

GetYourWordsOut: Year Seven!
Pledges & Requirements | GYWO.net

As I failed to conclude NaNoWriMo this year, I've decided to give this project a try instead. I'm doing the Basic level (16600 words/month, in a total of 200K words), which is much more manageable and allows be to do things at a steady but comfortable pace. I'm also going to rework another failed previous attempt at NaNo, but since I'm going to write this one in English instead of Portuguese (and since I originally began work on this plot three years ago) I think it's better to start things from zero rather than pick up the story from where I left off last time.

Wish me luck!

I've finished reading Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

As always when it comes to Gaiman, it was a brilliant read, but what drew to me the most is that the story felt like something Diana Wynne Jones (who was a friend and inspiration for Gaiman) could have written. I got vibes from Time of the Ghost especially. Gaiman says the Hempstocks have made an appearance in some form or another in previous books like Stardust or The Graveyard Book (I'll need to reread those to spot them, which I'm sure won't be hard), but I feel they have probably been peeking in the pages of DWJ's books too. That, and like her, Gaiman has used pieces of his own childhood.

Overall, a book I highly recommend.

I caught a bit of Who Wants to be a Millionaire just now. The question was: "Who was the villain in Shakespeare's Othello?"

The contestant's answer? Voldemort.

He dismissed Iago straight away because, quote, "the name sounds too weird for Shakespeare."

Presenter: Did you ever read any of his plays?
Contestant: No, but I've seen a couple of movies.

I've been thinking a bit about the Doctor Who casting news, and thought of a good thing and a bad thing about it: Cut for potential spoilers. )
