How on earth did it take me so long to discover this?

We Are Normal - gen 1, part 1

So here it is, my attempt to get back to posting about the sims, in a more subdued and smaller-scale manner. As I've said in my previous post, I'll be using a tweaked version of the set of rules for a Paranormal Challenge [livejournal.com profile] jens_sims has drafted so far, and I'll be posting small (and hopefully frequent) updates.

So let's get to it!

New Sims challenge from me!

After some failed attempts to start a new legacy challenge, mainly for lack of inspiration at posting about it because the sims fandom overall exhausts me nowadays, I've decided to give it a try and do something on a smaller scale, posting it only here at my DW (with a crosspost to my personal LJ as opposed to my sims one). Instead of a proper legacy with the rule of starting things on a large empty lot and seeing it grow (mostly because those lots start lagging after a while) I'm set everything in houses built in-game and have the family move from time to time to prevent glitches and the aforementioned lagging. Also, I'll be following a personalized version of the rules [livejournal.com profile] jens_sims is working on for a supernatural challenge, mainly because I want to do something a little bit more specific than just having a sim start a family and see it multiply.

For those of you who know how much I love Doctor Who, I should mention that the neighbourhood I created for this challenge is called Troughton Town. And because I also love Young Frankenstein, the founder for this challenge is called Abby Normal. ExpandMeet her here. )

As soon as I have enough for an update, I'll post it here. I'm going to avoid doing what I've always done when posting my sims stories (large, image-heavy posts, a first-person narrator, etc), as I feel that that's probably what's been causing my writer's block, and will instead have much smaller and (hopefully) regular updates where I'll just describe the events. If this experience works out, then I might start doing a proper challenge afterwards.

It only now just hit me that Stubby Kaye, who played Marvin Acme in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? as well as one half of the Greek chorus from Cat Ballou (the other half being Nat King Cole), was Weismuller the Yankees-loving secret agent from Delta and the Bannermen. It's a small Doctor Who world after all...

I've just shared this on Facebook, but I felt it also deserved to be here as well due to its utter creepiness.

A Brazilian non-profit organization that helps people with cancer has a really scary mascot that looks like... a giant testicle.

25 years ago today, Patrick Troughton (AKA the best incarnation of the Doctor ever) passed away.

Pat, you are deeply missed. Thank you for being so awesome.

I'm still reading Reflections: On the Magic of Writing, a compilation of essays and public speeches Diana Wynne Jones has written throughout her career. In the book there's also an interview by Charlie Butler, which I'm currently halfway through, and this particular bit has just made me laugh: ExpandCut. )

o_O

Heard this today on Nuno Markl's radio show, and because of it I'm now having some trouble picking up my fallen jaw.

Swedish police has been searching for the killer of a gang leader since 2011. Earlier this week, the main suspect of the murder decided to turn himself in... only to be told the police station had just closed, and that he should therefore either come back the next morning, or head down to another station.

You can guess what my face looked like when I heard this.

PS: Found more details on the story here.

Yet another reason why I love Colin Baker. There are circumstances where it makes sense to pull the "I'm a celebrity" card, and this is one of them.

A glimpse of the reconstructed missing episodes from The Reign of Terror.

I want that DVD so desperately right now...

2013 To-Read List

This is the list of books I am planning to read this year. As with the previous list, I'll add books to it whenever I manage to get my hands on something new, and I'll strike a book once I finish it.

Pluggity-plug.

Do you love Doctor Who and would love to share your thoughts and experiences about it with others? Are you sick and tired of trolls who like to cause drama, or mods who act like jerks just because they can? Then join [livejournal.com profile] friendly_who! The mod is an absolute sweetheart, and her goal is to make of this comm a fun, drama-free zone.

Okay, so far I'm enjoying The Casual Vacancy. If you're expecting something like Harry Potter, however, you'll be highly disappointed, as it's completely unlike it in every aspect. It's better if you approach this book without any sort of expectations. I still have a long way to go before I finish it, though, so for the time being I'm abstaining from doing a more complete review or even a "you MUST buy this!!!!" sort of recommendation.
